Peter is a prize-winning journalist and globally recognized travel authority. He is a two-time James Beard Award nominee and was named a Travel Journalist of the Year by the Society of American Travel Writers. His essays have been nominated for a National Magazine Award and frequently showcased in The Best American Travel Writing and The Best American Magazine Writing.

Along with his wife, Nilou Motamed, Peter is the co-founder of Story Collective, a consultancy specializing in brand strategy and storytelling for restaurants, luxury hotels, DMCs, and travel destinations.

Most recently, Nilou and Peter conceived and developed Further, a monthly digital magazine about global culture, food, style, adventure, wellness, and the pure, unbridled joy of travel. Just months after launching in September 2024, Further was one of 5 finalists for the Best Travel & Lifestyle Site prize in the 2025 Webby Awards.

Peter previously served as Executive Editor of Condé Nast Traveler; Director of Inspiration for Conrad Hotels & Resorts; Editor-at-Large for Saveur; and as the longtime Editor-at-Large and Features Director for Travel + Leisure. His writing has also appeared in New York, Food & Wine, Details, Glamour, Men’s Journal, and The New York Times. 

Peter is a graduate of Harvard University, where he studied creative writing, music, and fine art, and was Managing Editor of the bestselling Let’s Go travel guide series. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
